On June 15th, join the Herkimer County cancer-fighting community at the 20th annual Relay For Life of Herkimer County to beat our biggest rival – cancer. The event starts at 11 am at Eastern Park, in Little Falls. The community is invited to help us celebrate and honor our local cancer survivors and remember those we’ve lost.

“The first thing we want the community to know is that this is not a race,” says American Cancer Society Senior Community Development Manager, Melanie Francis. “This is a free, family-friendly event. We hope you will come out and walk a lap in honor or in memory of someone you know that has had cancer. While you’re walking that lap, participate in all the great games, activities, and raffles our teams are doing to raise funds to end this disease.”

This year’s theme is “Rock for the Cure,” and the event will feature a jam-packed music schedule, featuring Square Pegs, Simple Props, Matt Grainger, and more. There will be a Rock n Roll costume contest, Knockerball Tournament, raffles, games, food trucks, and kid’s tent. You do not need to be on a team to participate or support this event. The public is encouraged to attend.

The American Cancer Society is fighting cancer on every front; standing shoulder to shoulder with cancer patients and those supporting them. Funds raised help the American Cancer Society attack cancer in dozens of ways, each of them critical to achieving a world without cancer – from developing breakthrough therapies to building supportive communities, from providing empowering resources to deploying activists to raise awareness.

You’ll also hear from local cancer survivors and their caregivers about how vital the American Cancer Society services are.

Founded by Dr. Gordy Klatt in Washington in 1985, the Relay For Life movement unites communities across the globe to celebrate people who have been touched by cancer, remember loved ones lost, and take action for lifesaving change. Symbolizing the battle waged around the clock by those facing cancer, the event can last up to 24 hours and empowers communities to take a stand against cancer.

In addition to the support of the community, Relay For Life of Herkimer County is also supported by many local businesses and organizations. This year’s sponsors include Bassett Healthcare, Adirondack Bank, Hannaford, and more.
