Benton Hall Academy held its first field days on Monday and Tuesday, trying to complete the event before the worst of the expected high temperatures kicked in.

Principal Joe Long said, “This is the first time we’ve done this and it is fantastic. We thought the heat was going to discourage it, but we’re flexible, the kids love it, which is uncanny. Sometimes, they even let me play. It’s a lot of fun, it really is.”

“Denise, Tom, and Mike were out here early to get it organized,” he said.

Denise Scaparo, one of the teachers who organized the event, stated, “I used to do this at two other schools that I was at and always had great success, and the kids absolutely loved it. I wanted to give it a chance here for our BHA students.”

“Yesterday (Monday) was hot, but they did a really great job and stuck with it, and a lot of them seemed to enjoy it,” she said.

Scaparo said that parents had called in telling them how much fun it was for their children.

“We made it a little more competitive for them today by keeping score.”

“We couldn’t have done this without all of the other teachers that came out and helped, being station leaders, while the classroom teachers were flexible with their time. It really was a building effort to make this happen,” Scaparo stated.
