The Community Garden at the First Presbyterian Church, 16 Jackson Street, Little Falls, is pleased to share our annual updates and exciting news. The Presbyterian Church, USA recently awarded two grants to the Community Garden, enabling the church community to hire a part-time manager, ensure programming, and expand into a second location as possible. We are excited to continue our mission of meeting the needs of local food scarcity while bringing awareness to the issue of injustice in the food system as we build community.

Although the pandemic year 2021 continued to be a challenging, stressful time for so many of us, the Community Garden managed to cultivate new relationships and continued to grow and yield an excellent harvest. Last season we added visitor benches, ADA-compliant picnic tables, and a composting system to support the garden beds, pollinator garden, and certified Monarch Habitat established in 2020. Hosting so many volunteers and supporters in the garden and at the new picnic tables was perhaps our greatest pleasure. Each Thursday evening during the season we worked together in the garden, enjoyed several cooking classes, and spent important time over simple dinners. The three-bin composting system was well received and kitchen compost materials were added all through the winter. We planted all of the raised beds and delivered our harvested vegetables to Little Falls Community Outreach’s Food Backpack program. Our third growing season of the garden promises to be one of abundant growth in so many ways.

The garden plans for 2022 include gathering on Thursday evenings at 5:30 when we will be renewing and generating relationships, offering more cooking demonstrations and classes (with take-home items), as well as gardening education and games. All ages will be able to participate. The compost bins are open to all of the greater Little Falls community. Visit our Community Garden Facebook page to learn exactly how to collect your home compost. (Please share and give us a Like!)

We’d like to thank the generous Little Falls community for its support of the garden. Many of our neighbors and community members gave generously in support of the garden. Our first annual outdoor, fine dining fundraiser, A Longer Table, was extremely well received and is in the planning process for later this summer.

Volunteers are always needed to water and weed the garden. If you would like to participate or need more information, download the SignUp app or visit, email, or call 315-823-3004. We meet each Thursday evening at 5:30 PM for “Garden, Games and Grub,” a time of getting to know our Little Falls neighbors and working cooperatively to “build a longer table.” Everyone is welcome.
