LITTLE FALLS, NY – The last time the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs and the Glens Falls Dragons met at Veteran’s Memorial Park, the two combined for 26 runs in a 21-5 blowout for Mohawk Valley. On Thursday night, the two teams scored just as many runs, but it was a much closer game.

The Diamond Dawgs and Dragons scored in bunches all night long, but in the end, thanks to a three-run moon ball by Nick Cimillo, Mohawk Valley was able to squeak out an 11-10 victory.

The Dragons struck first in the second, as good baserunning by Evan St. Claire (Whitehall, NY/Siena) brought him home on a passed ball by Mohawk Valley pitcher Jimmy Joyce (Wantagh, NY/Hofstra). The Diamond Dawgs would answer with three straight hits to start the third, giving them the lead on a 2-RBI single by Jacob Josey (Ellenton, FL/Florida Atlantic) that would score Owen Wosleger (East Hampton, CT/Mount St. Mary’s) and Jake Barbiere (Randolph, NJ/Rider).

An error by the Mohawk Valley shortstop would tie up the game for the Dragons, bringing home St. Claire. Glens Falls would take the lead on a short fly to left field by Jack Kelleher (Queensbury, NY/St. John Fisher), scoring Sean Bergeron (Crosby, TX/Western Kentucky). DJ Law (Dothan, AL/South Alabama) would clear the bases with a 3-RBI double to the left-field wall, scoring Brad Hipsley (Saratoga Springs, NY/Stony Brook), Shamus Connolly (Brooklyn, NY/Wagner) and Kelleher.

CJ Rodriguez (Newport Beach, CA/Vanderbilt) would answer the call in the fifth, crushing an RBI single to score Barbiere. However, Brandon Kruzinski (Albany, NY/Lynn) extended the lead in the sixth, with a hard-hit triple to right field that would score Connolly. However, Luke Turner (King of Prussia, PA/York) and Nick Cimillo (Airmont, NY/Manhattan) would tie up the score with two moon balls to left field, scoring four runs in the sixth to tie the game up at seven.

Mohawk Valley would grab another four runs in the seventh, thanks to four free bases (three walks, one hit batsman) from Glens Falls pitching. The Dragons would not go away, however, cutting the lead to just one, thanks to a 2-RBI single by Brian Hart (Saratoga, NY/Marist). However, Mike Schwartz (Merrick, NY/Villanova) would slam the door in the ninth for Mohawk Valley, only allowing one hit to pick up the save for Mohawk Valley.

Keegan Leffler (Wilton, NY/Herkimer) got the win, while Spencer Smith (Minier, IL/Heartland CC) got the loss for Glens Falls.

The Diamond Dawgs (26-13) will embark on a weekend unlike any other seen in the league: five games over three days. Those will start on Friday at Veteran’s Memorial Park with a twin-bill with the Utica Blue Sox, the games of which have been rained out at least twice. Saturday, Mohawk Valley will travel to Shuttleworth Park for a game with the Amsterdam Mohawks. Then, the Diamond Dawgs will finish off their baseball marathon back in Little Falls on Sunday for a doubleheader with the Watertown Rapids.

The Dragons (12-28) will have their next few games determine playoff seedings, starting with Friday’s matchup at East Field against the Albany Dutchmen. The Dragons’ next six games are against either the Dutchmen or the Saugerties Stallions, including a doubleheader against both of them on Saturday and Tuesday, respectively. Glens Falls will finish out the season next Wednesday night against Amsterdam.
