Little Falls, NY – This summer, Little Falls will enjoy their 31st annual Canal Celebration. The week-long celebration takes place throughout the city and includes a community picnic with fireworks, musical entertainment, a grand parade and much more. This fun-filled extravaganza also includes opportunities to enjoy oneself while supporting a good cause. One such opportunity is the “Annual Canal Days Golf Tournament” to be held Saturday, August 11th at the Mohawk Valley Country Club. This tournament has been a part of Canal Celebration for 21 years and is hosted by The Rotary Club of Little Falls #4843 and benefits community projects.
Since 1958, Little Falls Rotary has maintained a principal motto of “Service Above Self” by offering individuals an opportunity to belong to one of the world’s largest organizations where they can connect at a community level. “This provides a sense of community obligation and responsibility,” says Rotary Secretary, Tony Piana. “Our Rotary is comprised of some amazing folks including Wendy Mucica who recently passed the gavel to Pat Talaba to serve as our president.” According to the club’s website, “Talaba’s professional career spans over twenty years; with a strong training and community collaboration background, Patty has direct service and leadership positions in substance abuse prevention, child welfare, and crisis intervention.”
This club is comprised of professionals who seek to make a difference in their community. “We are always looking for guests and new speakers to present during our weekly dinners,” explains Piana. “Of course, we also keep our doors open to people looking to become members of our group and help us make a difference in Little Falls.”
Additional projects Little Falls Rotary has facilitated include city clean-ups, rehabilitation of Rotary Park, child safety events, the international student exchange program, and supporting Boy Scouts and Little League. “Our annual golf tournament supports the Rotary Club Scholarship Program,” says Piana, “and it’s a fun way for residents and merchants to take part in this great cause during Canal Celebration.”
While the Mohawk Valley Country Club’s website shows a busy 2018 golf season, last year’s tournament was the 5th one held at Mohawk Valley Country Club following the rebuild of the clubhouse. In April 2017, a devastating fire destroyed the former clubhouse making it a total loss. The new structure was rebuilt in less than 3 months and now offers lunch, dinner and cocktails to complement the 18-hole course, open to the public. Guests are invited to visit MVCC Grille & Bar in the clubhouse and enjoy their unique menu selection, including their newly introduced Sunday Brunch.
The Rotary golf tournament is a 4-person scramble for men, women, co-ed and 65 & over divisions. Registration is 7:45-8:45am, with a 9am shotgun start, and entry fees are $85 per player, or $340 per team. The cost includes coffee and donuts at the Country Club to start, with a lunch buffet to follow the tournament. Also included are green fees, carts, soda on the course, prizes, mulligans (1 for each member to use anywhere) and skins. Sponsorships are also available at $50 for a tee, and $75 for a hole. Door prize donations are also appreciated.
With proceeds benefiting community projects, you don’t want to miss this exciting tournament. Please call Tony Piana directly at 315-823-1573 for applications, entry or sponsorship.
