Holy Family Parish, Little Falls and St. Joseph, Dolgeville will gather this weekend –
February 16/17, 2019 to celebrate the Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time. All are welcome to join us.

Today we hear St. Luke’s version of Jesus’ Beatitudes, his great teachings on how we are to live a life pleasing to God. We are probably more familiar with St. Matthew’s version, the Sermon on the Mount. Luke’s version is often referred to as the Sermon on the Plain. Unlike Matthew’s version, which is all blessings, Luke’s version is split between blessings and curses: “Blessed are you who are poor, for the kingdom of God is yours”, but also: “Woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation.” But while the format between the Sermon on the Mount and the Sermon on the Plain may be different, Jesus’ message is the same – we are to take care of one another. We are blessed if we do that, and if we don’t, if we put other things – money, power, etc., ahead of our care for others, woe to us.

Monday, February 18, is Presidents’ Day. Presidents’ Day is officially Washington’s Birthday and was originally celebrated on February 22, Washington’s actual birthday. President Lincoln’s birthday, February 12, was then added to the calendar of holidays. When most holidays were moved to Mondays, Washington’s and Lincoln’s holidays were combined and moved to the 3rd Monday in February, and it was renamed Presidents’ Day. This day is a reminder of the contributions made by all presidents, especially Washington and Lincoln. The parish offices will be closed on Monday in recognition of the federal holiday.

This weekend we welcome Amelia Caroline Zink into our community of faith through the Sacrament of Baptism. Amelia is the daughter of Christopher and Maria (Lorenzoni) Zink.
