Holy Family Parish, Little Falls and St. Joseph, Dolgeville will gather this weekend –
March 9/10, 2019 to celebrate the First Sunday of Lent. All are welcome to join us.
Jesus has been baptized by John, the beginning of his earthly ministry, and he is now led by the Holy Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil; temptations of food, power and glory, if only he will do what the devil asks him to do. As we begin our own journey into the Lenten desert, we look at the temptations in our own lives, temptations that keep us from drawing closer to God. The reason we fasted and refrained from eating meat on Ash Wednesday was to show that we could avoid the temptation of food if asked to do so. The reason that we give up something for Lent or do extra acts of charity is to demonstrate that we can avoid the temptations the world places in front of us and, instead, pay attention to our journey to God.
Deacon Jim will lead a series of Lenten reflections beginning this Wednesday, March 13, and continuing each Wednesday during Lent. Each session will meet in the Holy Family Parish Office at 4:30 and will end with Vespers at 5:30. We will reflect on the scripture readings for the Sundays of Lent. These periods of reflection and discernment are open to all. Please join us.
