Holy Family Parish, Little Falls and St. Joseph, Dolgeville will gather this weekend
September 7/8, 2019 to celebrate the 22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time. All are welcome to join us.
When we read gospels such as the one for this weekend, we could easily become discouraged at the demands placed on us by Christ. Although he speaks to us in metaphors, he is also making it clear that to follow Jesus will cost us something. One way to gain the strength to carry our cross every day is through prayer, both for ourselves and for others, which we do at every weekend Mass – the Prayer of the Faithful. Our second reading today, from Paul’s letter to Philemon is such a prayer. Onesimus has run away from his master Philemon. Paul sends Onesimus back to Philemon but pleads with him not to punish him, but to treat him well; not as a slave, but as a brother. As we pray today for the church and the world, let us pray especially for all those most in need of God’s love.
Our annual Fall Retreat will take place on Saturday, September 21, in the Holy Family Parish Hall, beginning at 8:30 and concluding at 12:30 with lunch. Sister Kitty Hanley will be with us again this year. Her theme for this year’s retreat will be “Are you there God? It’s me.” There is no charge for the retreat, but we do ask that you call the parish office and let us know you are planning on attending so we can make arrangements for the food.
