Tips for Keeping Cool During Summer
As we being the summer season, it is important that we find ways to keep our bodies cool during the hot and humid days. Here are a few suggestions to keep in mind to combat heat exhaustion:
- Stay hydrated by drinking water and eating foods that contain water, such as watermelon, cucumber, and zucchini. Avoid caffeinated and alcoholic beverages as these will increase dehydration.
- When possible, utilize fans and air conditioner and make sure to clean them regularly to make sure they are working properly. If you do not have either, open windows if possible to increase cross-ventilation.
- Plan any strenuous or outdoor activities before the noon hour. When out in the sun, wear a hat and light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.
- Have cold washcloths or ice packs handy in your refrigerator in case your experience hot flashes. Put the cloth or pack on the back of your wrists, neck, or face for a quick cool down.
