Singer Gary Van Slyke presented an interactive concert for kids at the Little Falls Public Library on Tuesday that was attended by about 25 children and adults. Slyke is a multi-instrument singer who not only teaches numbers, rhymes and history, but allows the children to play instruments as well.

The program can be geared for any aged audience, but is primarily targeted at pre-schoolers. “It might end up being a series,” says Director Anne Nassar, “but we’ll have to see what the response is.”

According to Nassar, they have several activities planned that are coming up. Folk Dancing every Thursday for the next 4 weeks is one of them. “Get some exercise, learn about culture – you don’t have to know how to dance. Every week it’s a different cultural thing,” she said.

The last one is going to be about American Wedding Dances, “which I hadn’t really thought of as Folk Dancing,” said Nassar, “but I guess it is.”

During Canal Days they are going to have a book sale and actors will be in costume across from the Library in the park dressed as characters from Alice in Wonderland. Nassar stated “It’s Alice in Libraryland and they’re going to end up bringing people over to the Library when they’re done.”

They will also have Irish Poetry Reading on the back porch during Canal Days.

All the events are scheduled for the 9th, 10th and 11th of August. “It’s going to be a huge thing over here,” stated Nassar.
