Rustic Ties in Dolgeville will host the third annual “Miles for Meag” music festival on Saturday, June 22nd, from 11:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.

The Miles for Meag Music Festival is a fundraiser to raise money for suicide prevention and to help support families that are coping with suicide.

Meagan Stewart took her own life at the young age of 22. Her mother, Tracy Stewart, felt like she had to do something to honor her and help others who might find themselves in the same situation.

Her mother said, “I started the Miles for Meag non-profit in June of 2022. At that time, there was no support for families that were coping with suicide loss.”

“We do suicide prevention, but we help a lot of families that are going through suicide loss,” she stated.

The group offers financial assistance to families to pay for funerals as well. “To date we’ve given $1,000 to five different families to help alleviate that cost.”

They also deal with the prevention side and attempted suicide by helping with out-of-pocket costs for treatment.

“We do a lot of different things for people contemplating suicide or the families that are coping with it,” stated Stewart.

According to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, suicide is the 12th leading cause of death in the United States. In 2020 alone, 45,979 Americans died by suicide. On top of that, there were an estimated 1.20 million suicide attempts.

On average, there are 130 suicides per day, while at the same time, 93% of adults that were surveyed in the United States think that suicide can be prevented.

As for the festival, she said that it is pretty much the same as it was the first year, except that there are more and more people coming out to the event.

“The festival has really grown over the years. It’s a family-fun event. We have sidewalk chalk for the kids, hula hoops and bubbles, and also corn hole boards out so people can play. It’s not just music, but a lot of things,” Stewart stated.

Rustic Ties personnel will serve food all day, and the bar will also be open.

For the all-day event, adults’ tickets are $25, kids’ tickets are $10, and children four and under are free.
