This was the largest group of Jr. Police Academy students that have graduated to date. The class started with 25 and 22 of them graduated in a ceremony at Benton Hall Academy on Friday afternoon.

According to Chief Petrie “We’ve been doing this for a few years. Chief Masie started it. It was a busy week with PT every morning, then searching and handcuffing class, stop DUI, they got a tour of Mercy Flight in Rome, a K-9 demonstration in Moreland Park, vehicle stops, defensive tactics, and personal safety classes.”

Instead of finishing class at 1 pm as they had in the past, this class went until 2 pm, which required a need for lunch to be provided. “A lot of businesses in the area either gave reduced food or donated it. Subway, Stewarts, Price Chopper, Ed’s Pizza and Kelly’s Meat Market all assisted us throughout the week.”

The Chief said that it was a long week, but that it went fast. “It was a good week,” he said.
