Alexis Kress hit her 1,000th point in the last seconds of the game against Herkimer Monday night in a 58-35 win for the girl’s varsity basketball team.

Kress started the 2023-2024 season with 646 points, needing 354 points to reach her goal.

Coach Pam Munger stated, “When we talked about this at the beginning of the season, we talked about what she needed to get and average per game. But she wanted the team to win. You can see when she’s out on the floor, she’s very unselfish. She’s battling all the time to give her best effort.”

“She’s such an asset to have on this team, and to be able to have her for so long – I’ve been spoiled,” stated the Coach.

“I’ve had the pleasure of coaching great talent and great kids, and she’s right up there. Everybody loves watching her play. It’s just how she is. She works hard academically and hard as an athlete,” stated Munger.

Madison Marusic from Herkimer is Kress’s best friend, and they play AU together. “They’ve been friends for a long time. They’ve talked about this and were happy that it was this game. Everyone was,” Munger said.

She went on to say that it was hard to coach the game because she knew it was senior night and that this was happening simultaneously. “I’m not good at putting it all into words, but I’ve just got to tell you, I love coaching these kids because they work so hard.”

Kress said, “It’s really awesome. It’s something that I’m still trying to take in.”

She said having it happen at home while playing with her best friend was nice.
