On Saturday, June 8th from 12:30 until 2:30, the Little Falls Public Library will host a reception to celebrate illustrator Leslie Kubica’s show.

Attendees will have the chance to meet the artist and view her work. Singer/mandolin player Hannah Kubica will provide live music during the event. Refreshments will be served.

This exhibit is Leslie’s first major show. She became an artist only recently. Her degree is in Music Performance and Education, and she teaches music full-time. Two years ago she was injured a car accident, and during her recovery, she began to draw.

“I felt like a kid again, dabbling in the magic of visual storytelling,” Kubica says, “I didn’t know it then, but making art not only became something new that I love to do, but it helped me work through an experience that left me feeling broken.”

Since then, she has worked in ink, gouache, and acrylics. She sells greeting cards online through her Etsy shop. This summer, she will host three workshops at the Library and participate in Chicks Along the Canal. She is currently taking classes to help her reach her next artistic goal.

“Ever since I was a kid, I have wanted to illustrate children’s books,” Kubica says, “I love the use of one’s imagination and the worlds it can create.”

The images included in Kubica’s show are full of motion and energy. This is in keeping with her artistic philosophy.

“I always want to evoke joy and delight,” Kubica says, “If my artwork brings joy to me as I make it, it will make my audience feel joy by extension.”

Kubica’s show will be up throughout the month of June. For more information about the show or the reception, call (315) 823-1542, or visit Leslie’s website: www.lesliekubicaillustration.com.
