The annual budget vote for the fiscal year 2024-2025 by the qualified voters of the Little Falls City School District, Herkimer County, New York, will be held on May 21, 2024, between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., at which time the polls will be opened to vote by voting machine.

According to Superintendent Dr. Keith Levatino, “This is also the year in which all the American Rescue Plan Funds the district received as a result of the pandemic will expire, meaning that next year we will have to rely on our traditional revenue streams – State Aid and the support of our taxpayers. State aid is projected to be far less generous than it has been for the past four years. We will maintain all our current programs, but the district will be under financial pressure due to the sharp increases in the cost of fuel, electricity, health insurance, and educating our neediest students. The district is not immune to the same cost increases we have all felt in our private finances.”

“The budget that you will be asked to approve on May 21st represents a 1.42% increase in the tax levy. While this is higher than increases seen in recent years, it is still below the state levy limit and will qualify our residents for the STAR credit,” he stated.

Along with two Commissioners of the Board of Education for a three-year term, voters will be asked to decide on four propositions. Regarding candidates for the two open BOE positions, only Frank Mendl and Joe Finkst turned in their petitions at the deadline.
