A large crowd was on hand as Meeples Mughouse had their official ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday afternoon with both the Utica and Herkimer County Chambers of Commerce participating.

Owner Matt Powers said “Today is a very important day obviously. It’s a culmination of a lot of work, research, and different people coming together to create this crazy dream that I had. I’m overwhelmed by the response we’ve had so far. Not just by friends and family, but people are coming out of the woodwork – local townspeople.”

“This place is starting to become its own little community. I’ve learned so much about so many different people and listened to so many cool stories. People I never thought that I’d talk to in my life,” he said.

Powers thinks that the experience of having this business has taken him out of his own personal comfort zone. “It’s brought me to an aspect of myself that I didn’t know that I had. It has given me an awesome appreciation of people that I didn’t have, but the people in this town particularly.”

Powers says that it has been a lot of fun and work, but most of all fun. “I love it when people come in and they’re a little shy or quiet. They get a game or two and some food and in half an hour they’re having a great time, laughing and relaxed. When they leave, they are happy as clams going out the door. That makes everything worthwhile for me,” said Powers.
