The Little Falls Mounties varsity baseball team was in action this last weekend with a 9-7 loss to Central Valley Academy on Friday evening and an 8-1 win against Solvay on Saturday night.

Saturday was special for two reasons. First, there was a ceremony before the game commemorating the 1982 Division ‘B’ New York State High School Baseball state champions. Members of the team showed up to be recognized and to receive a plaque that will be mounted at Veterans Memorial Field.

Athletic Director Bart Tooley said, “In an afternoon game before a packed Veterans Memorial Park, the Mounties came back from a 2-0 deficit in the first inning to defeat Wilson 12-5. The Mounties finished that season 23 and 6. Winners of 8 straight to capture the first state baseball championship in school history and the first section three team to do so in the first year of that state championship format.”

The second reason was that the Solvay team was coached by Darren Lee, Barb Smith’s son, who is a 1994 graduate of Little Falls High School.

Tooley stated, “It has taken us 7-8 years to put this game together.”

Little Falls is now 14-2 on the season and 11-1 in the CSC.
