The 3rd Annual Mohawk Valley Brownfields Developer Summit is a continuation of the collaborative efforts between economic development agencies across the six counties of the Mohawk Valley and the Mohawk Valley Economic Development District, Inc. (MVEDD).

The Summit will be held April 23 – 24, 2024, at Herkimer College in Herkimer, New York. This event will provide developers with a dynamic in-person opportunity to network, explore, and invest in the Mohawk Valley’s Brownfield rebirth. According to Stephen Smith, Executive Director of MVEDD, “The Summit will provide an opportunity to connect brownfield developers with local economic leaders who have sites ready for remediation to push economic growth in the region.”

There are unique economic development opportunities within the region, along with funding opportunities. Downtown Revitalization Initiatives (DRI), NY Forward, and Brownfield Opportunity Areas have been awarded to Herkimer, Gloversville, Richfield, Boonville, and Little Falls. In addition, MVEDD has been awarded funding from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to loan/subgrant monies for brownfield remediation and redevelopment. Since the passing of the CHIPS and Science Act, investments in the semiconductor industry in the Mohawk Valley have reached historic heights, and the investments are still coming. This surge in economic activity is putting the focus on preparing sites for industrial, commercial, residential, and infill development.

Speakers will spotlight why investing in the Mohawk Valley has never been better. Seasoned experts from the public and private sectors will discuss the valley’s needs, redevelopment opportunities, available financial incentives, and why businesses are investing here.

Prioritized redevelopment sites will be showcased during the Summit.
