Jesse Sommer with New Scotland Spirits stopped by the studio to do a podcast about his company and his life.

Jesse Sommer with New Scotland Spirits is on a mission to get the rest of us in New York to experience the passion and taste he’s put into his whisky.
He says that New Scotland Spirits is committed to crafting locally sourced spirits in honor of his native New Scotland, New York. “I love being on a podcast called Small Town Life because that’s the ethos that animates the company.”
Sommer did ten years in the Army, and he said, “It was in the back half of my career that I had this sense of – if I’m going to be getting out, because I knew I wasn’t going to be doing twenty, what is it that I want to do and where is it I want to go?”
“I may have left home in search of where I was supposed to be, but all it took was being away from home to realize that my place was solidly back where I’d grown up,” he stated.
His website says, “Utilizing the finest grains grown on Upstate New York’s family farms, we work in tandem with partner distilleries, friends, and local farmers to bring the taste of rural New York to the world beyond our borders. Infused with a sense of place and the “terroir” of times gone by, we present an American spirit with a “New Scottish” soul.”
It’s a fascinating podcast, and Jesse has a heck of a story to tell.
