Patricia A. Doxtader

Patricia A. Doxtader

HERKIMER – Patricia A. Doxtader was born at St. Joseph’s Hospital on August 12, 1953, in Lowell, MA, daughter of the late William and Elaine M. (Horman) Nelson. She attended St. Michael School in Lowell, MA, followed by Lowell High School. She graduated with her L.P.N. from Lowell Trade High School Practical Nurse Program, in 1973. She worked as a nurse for several years, ending her career at Valley Health Services in Herkimer, NY, in the 1990s. Her passing occurred on April 6, 2024, at Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown, her beloved daughters always at her side.

Patricia had an idyllic early childhood in Dracut, Massachusetts. Her Nana and Grandpa Horman lived in the apartment downstairs and showered Patricia with love as doting grandparents. After the family moved to their own house in Lowell, summers were spent in Dracut with her grandparents. This time was filled with visits to Lakeview Park, with daily swimming and visits to Happy Eddie’s Ice Cream.

At St. Michael, Patricia was a nice, conforming student, the kind the nuns loved. At a parent-teacher event, her mother told her teacher she was Patricia Nelson‘s mom. The nun replied, “Patricia Nelson…Patricia Nelson…she must be one of the quiet ones!”.

Patricia was your typical 1960s teen. She enjoyed downtown Lowell, after school, walking home over the Bridge Street Bridge and getting a Lena’s sub before watching soap operas in the afternoons. Patricia danced at the Commodore ballroom with her many high school friends, on Saturday nights.

Although she lived in upstate New York for several years, Patricia was a New Englander at heart and was very proud of her Irish heritage. She enjoyed vacations at the beach with her family, had a love for seafood and a talent for Irish dancing, in her youth. Patricia had a generous heart, loved gift-giving and had an impeccable memory for small details of past events. In recent years, she loved reminiscing with her brothers Billy and John over long phone calls and spending time with friends David Lowell and Katie Duchnycz.

She is survived by her daughters, Dr. Erika E. Doxtader and her husband, Dr. Sanjay Mukhopadhyay, of Pepper Pike, OH, Erin C. Cotton and her late husband, Matthew A. Cotton, of Little Falls, NY and Hannah Corin, of Bronx, NY; her four grandchildren, Matthew D. Cotton, Tristan A. Cotton, Ava Mukhopadhyay and Mila Mukhopadhyay; and her brothers, William P. Nelson, of Jamaica Plain, MA and John F. Nelson, of Hudson, NH.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Colleen Nelson, of Dracut, MA.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 12, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 North Washington Street, in Herkimer, New York and relatives and friends are invited to attend. There will also be a calling hour that will precede the service from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., for all to join the family. Interment will be soon, at a cemetery to be determined. At the conclusion of the Funeral Home Services, on Friday, the family would like to invite relatives and friends to a luncheon, at the Herkimer Elks Lodge, on Mary Street, from 12 Noon, until 2:00 p.m.

It is the wish of the family that memorial contributions in loving memory of Patricia be considered to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 and envelopes are available at the funeral home for this purpose.

Her arrangements are in care of Enea, Ciaccia & Applegate Funeral Directors (315) 866-1011.
