Robin Nicole Currie-Sniffen

Robin Nicole Currie-Sniffen

Robin Nicole Currie-Sniffen peacefully entered heaven on August 14, 2023, after a year-long battle with internal melanoma cancer at the age of 48.

Robin was born to Reita and Jack Currie in Manhattan, Kansas, on May 21, 1975, and made her home in Ashland Bottoms, south of Manhattan, Kansas, and recently in Stratford, New York.

She attended Manhattan High School, graduating in 1993, and took classes at K-State. She was active in 4-H, Ashland Church, rowing, caring for her pets and plants, and riding motorcycles. She never met an animal she didn’t like and if possible, would rescue it and give unconditional love to bring it back to thriving. Some nurses, doctors, and even her vet referred animals to her.

She is survived by her parents of Hot Springs, AR Reita and Jack Currie, brother, Jeff Currie of Carlsbad, NM, husband, Richard Sniffen, Stratford, NY, her paternal grandmother, Lois Currie, Junction City, KS, aunt, Donna Weisbender and cousins, Tyler and Tucker Currie all of Manhattan, KS.

Robin was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Faye and Lou Pittenger, Westmoreland, KS; paternal grandfather, Jim Currie, Manhattan, KS. Uncle Tim Currie, cousins, Richard Conley and Nicholus Conley of Manhattan, KS.

Taking care of others took up most of her time as she put others first before herself. Robin was a proud Volunteer Fire Fighter of the Stratford, New York Fire Department. She wore the uniform proudly and made dear friends. She was an avid Kansas State University and Kansas City Chiefs fan. She was a paraeducator and was active judging MMA fights in various locations.

Her rescued family included Valentino and Petunia, pot-bellied pigs, Skyla, conure parrot, Zilla, an iguana, birds, bunnies, turtles, Taylor, a cat, and most recently, Kojak. Kojak was being trained as her support dog and already had his vest to wear before her last hospitalization. He lies at the front door waiting for her return.

Robin was strong, independent, loyal, stubborn, and a friend. Thanks to the many friends who visited her, called and emailed. I would miss some if I tried to list so you know who you are, and you are all very appreciated.

A memorial service will be announced later. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society Melanoma Foundation, an animal rescue of your choice, or the Ashland Community Building. Her funeral arrangements are under the direction and care of the locally owned and operated Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremations, 7507 State Route 5, between Little Falls and St. Johnsville, 315-508-5131.
