The Rotary of Little Falls’ guest speaker for the meeting on March 27, 2024, was Pat LaFontaine, a retired nurse educator.

Pat’s interesting and potentially life saving presentation was on promoting heart health, noting that the American Heart Association is celebrating 100 years of promoting heart health.

She explained that a heart attack occurs when blood flow to the heart is blocked and oxygen is not getting to the heart tissue. If you are experiencing the following symptoms in men – may include crushing chest pain, sweating, and nausea, and in women – shortness of breath, dizziness, pain or pressure in the lower chest, upper abdomen, jaw, and upper back- Get to the emergency room as quickly as possible as every minute matters.

If a cardiac arrest occurs, where the heart malfunctions and stops beating, call 911, start CPR if there is no heartbeat, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) as soon as possible. To reduce your heart disease risk, get regular exercise, don’t smoke, eat a healthy diet, maintain a healthy weight, get quality sleep, manage stress, drink alcohol in moderation, and have regular health screenings.

Rotary thanks Pat LaFontaine for her timely and informative presentation.
