Just a couple of miles past the High School on West Monroe street, sits the new Rusty Nail & Grill restaurant & bar. Owners Leonard and Trudy Bienkowski, recent newcomers to the Herkimer County Chamber of Commerce, opened the facility in April of this year.

The name of the restaurant used to be the Ice House, but it’s no longer the same place after the renovations that have been finished. The couple decided they wanted to settle in one spot after catering a lot of local events through Bienkowski’s BBQ catering service.

The menu is complete with appetizers, burgers, chicken, subs, fish sandwich’s, Philly steaks, fish fry’s, strip steaks and prime rib. There’s a kids menu, plenty of drinks, and wine by Sutter Home. At some point, the couple plans to add BBQ to the menu.

Traffic to the restaurant has been good so far, and has been building as time goes on. “We think things will pick up in the fall when there are fewer activities for people to be involved in,” says Leonard. “We’re going to end up putting some pumps in so there is gas for the snowmobilers as well.”

Cans & Clams seems to be one of the most popular menu items and there are specials on Wine on Wednesdays.  Fish Fry’s on Fridays are popular as well.

Future plans include some remodeling for the front entrance and the outside of the building. According to Leonard “we can only do so much so fast, but so far people have liked what we’ve done with the place.”
