LITTLE FALLS, NY – The Saugerties Stallions held the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs to a grand total of five hits in two games on Thursday, earning the 3-2, 3-0 sweep.

The Stallions got on the board first in the third inning of Game One, when Andrew Amato (Weston, CT/Delaware) slammed a solo home run to center field. They’d add another on an RBI single by Aaron Stelogeannis (Ocala, FL/Polk State) that would score Ethan Conrad (Saugerties, NY/Marist).

The score would stay that way until the fifth, when another RBI single, this time by Hudson Brown (Olive Branch, MS/Kentucky) brought home Amato. However, back-to-back passed balls brought Sam Miller (/) home in the bottom of the inning, broke up the shutout, cutting the lead to two.

Justin Hackett (McMurray, PA/Columbia) brought home Mitchell Balint (Avondale, PA/Carson-Newman) with an RBI single in the seventh, but that was as close as the Diamond Dawgs would get, as Dylan Speakman (Atlanta, GA/South Georgia) forced Chance Checca (Ballston Spa, NY/Herkimer) to pop out to center to finish the game.

Nolan Phillips (Colorado Springs, CO/St. Thomas) got the win for Saugerties, while Speakman picked up the save in Game One. Kevin Kell (Blue Bell, PA/Fairfield) was saddled with the loss for Mohawk Valley.

A throwing error and an RBI single would bring home two runs for Saugerties in the third inning of Game Two to break a 0-0 tie, scoring Conor Kelly (Hopkinton, MA/UMass Lowell) and Jack Lawrence. Another passed ball, Mohawk Valley’s fourth of the inning, brought home Travis Hobbensiefken (Chino, CA/Mount San Antonio).

As it turned out, that would be all they would need in Game Two, holding the Diamond Dawgs to just one hit all the way through to slam the door on the doubleheader.

Brandon Eldridge (Conway, SC/Western Carolina) got the win in Game Two, while Liam Horan (Stony Point, NY/MSMC) got the save. Troy Butler (Fort Plain, NY/Salve Regina) got the loss.

The Diamond Dawgs (14-8) are on the road on Friday with another doubleheader, this time at Keenholts Field against the Albany Dutchmen. The Stallions (8-7) will return to Cantine Field on Friday to take on the Glens Falls Dragons.
