Sheryl L. (Sponable) Bernier

Ms. Sheryl L. (Sponable) Bernier, 65, of Belleview, Florida, and formerly of Salisbury Center, New York, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 9, 2023, in Belleview, Florida at home with her daughter, Becky, by her side.

She was born on October 15, 1957, in Little Falls, New York, and was the daughter of the late Herman and Norma (Darling) Sponable. Sheryl was educated at Dolgeville Central School, where she earned her diploma.

She was formerly employed as a bus driver for Dolgeville Central School in Dolgeville, NY, and Lexington in Johnstown, NY, for a number of years, retiring in 2011. She also opened Lake Aire Restaurant in Carolga Lake, NY, which eventually became The Coffee Shop until she retired in 2010. Several years after her retirement, Sheryl relocated to Florida.

Sheryl was a member of the Dolgeville Rod and Gun Club. She enjoyed camping, fishing, playing cards and games with family and friends, shopping, cooking, reading, karaoke nights with her friends at Baker Acres, going to the beaches, and, on occasion, a Michelob Ultra or a Strawberry Daiquiri. Her most favorite time was spent in the company of her family and friends, in particular, her grandchildren. She would spend time with them whenever she could, and she adored so much. A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Sheri will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her beloved daughters, Rebecca Broat and her husband, Brandon of Belleview, FL and Carie Smith of Little Falls, New York; her special grandchildren, Kelsea Eagles (Jordan) of Dolgeville, NY, Daniel Eagles of Palm Harbor, FL, Colton Hill (Cearrah) of Little Falls, NY, Kyleigh Smith (Kyle) of Herkimer, NY, Hailey Smith (Garrett) of Watertown, NY and Isabella Vesp of Little Falls, NY; cherished great-grandchildren, Grayson Maverick Murray and Elijah Joseph Hill; siblings, Scott Sponable (Lisa) of Melbourne, FL, Shawn Sponable (Tanya) of Remsen, NY, and Stacy Sponable (Kelly) of Dolgeville, NY; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins dear friends and her very special dog, Baby.

Sheryl was predeceased by her parents, a beloved son, Daniel Paul Jaquay, and her brother, Steven Sponable.

A private graveside service will be held on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at Dolgeville Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest with her son, Daniel. The family will receive relatives and friends for a Celebration of Life reception on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at 1 p.m. at the Dolgeville Rod and Gun Club. All are welcome to attend. Local arrangements are with Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf Street, Dolgeville, New York.

The family would like to thank Sheryl’s best friend, who was like a sister to her, Nancy Campbell, for her love and support of Sheryl and to the staff of the Florida Cancer Specialists for their professionalism and care for Sheryl and her family during her illness.
