The Syracuse University Brass Ensemble played a concert in Holy Family Parish on Sunday afternoon to a crowd of more than eighty music lovers.
The Syracuse University Brass Ensemble (SUBE) is a group of 35 professional-level brass and percussion musicians. Members include Syracuse University faculty, staff and students, the State University of New York Upstate Medical University faculty and staff, and accomplished musicians from Upstate New York communities. The group is directed by James T. Spencer.
The concert benefits the Mohawk Valley Center for the Arts. According to Director Jane Malin “The Syracuse University Brass Ensemble is very generous with their time and their talents and they come here every year for the benefit of the MVCA.”
The repertoire of the SUBE includes music from all major musical periods and often features new compositions commissioned by nationally known composers.
“It’s a fund-raiser for us and it’s very much appreciated. Holy Family Parish is fabulous to let us host it here and we have a pretty faithful following that comes to the performance each year,” stated Malin.
