PREVIOUS WEEK RECAP

The Dawgs played four games last week and had two postponements.

  • On Sunday, June 8, the Dawgs hosted the Glens Falls Dragons in their first Sunday game of the season. It was the Dragons who were breathing fire, however, as they took down the Dawgs 7-3. Edwin Sanchez, Ian Oehlschlaeger, and Brandon Hauk scored the runs for Mohawk Valley.

  • A two-game road trip was next on the schedule, but Mother Nature had other plans. A Monday night game at Boonville and a Tuesday night tilt at Oneonta were both rained out. The games will be made up at a later date.

  • Mohawk Valley returned home on Thursday night, June 12, and picked up their biggest win of the season thus far, defeating their bitter rival, the Amsterdam Mohawks, 8-3. It was Amsterdam’s first loss of the season, making the win even sweeter for the Dawgs. Walter Garrett picked up his first win of the season on the mound, and Aiden Colagrande slammed the door to record his first save of the campaign. On offense, Matt Sutera led the Dawgs in RBIs with three, followed by two from Joey Calabretti, who also had three hits. Edwin Sanchez continued his hot play with two hits and two runs scored.

  • The Dawgs followed up Thursday night’s big win with another home victory the next night – this time shutting down the Boonville Lumberjacks 4-1. Mohawk Valley pitching was the star of the show, as Dawgs hurlers Brendan Rusnick, Matthew Khan, and Brendon Miller combined to give up only two hits. JP Kuczik had two RBIs, while Kuczik, Edwin Sanchez, Joey Calabretti (who hit the Dawgs’ first home run of the season), and Sean Stoney each crossed home plate to provide all the offense the Dawgs needed.
