Herkimer County held a “Virtual Senior Picnic” on October 21, 2020. Due to the COVID pandemic, the in-person picnic had to be canceled. Herkimer County decided that we would provide a senior picnic experience for those over the age of 60. This picnic was organized with the help of all county departments and it was an all hands on deck approach. We had a great turnout for the event and over 260 people participated.
The participants were provided a barbecue meal and an opportunity to play bingo over the phone. We had two lively sessions of Bingo and 184 gift cards will be distributed to the lucky winners. The gifts cards were donated by legislators, county employees, the county administration, community members, and a few local businesses. We would like to thank all of those who donated gift cards for this event. During this pandemic, many local businesses have been struggling and this was a way to give back while helping out the older adults in our community. The give cards that were donated were valued at $1,900.
