Volunteers showed up Saturday morning to replace the American flags at the Church Street Cemetary. Normally, the task would have been completed by Memorial Day by members of the local scouting groups, but because of the COVID-19 restrictions, that didn’t happen.
Mark Penz, one of the volunteers said, “Every year we have a group of volunteers that comes down and swaps out the American Flags for all the brave men and women who served our country. Whether they are torn or not, they get a fresh flag every year.”
He said that they had been in contact with the American Legion via a private group on Facebook where they share information and news. “They responded quickly. They told us on Tuesday that they got the flags after a long delay and we gathered everyone up pretty quickly to come out here,” he said.
