The 2023 Youth Art Month show Your Art, Your Voice opened on Wednesday at the Mohawk Valley Center for the Arts with an exhibit of more than 80 pieces of art by Herkimer County students and art teachers from 12 schools representing eight districts.
According to Heather McCutcheon, Herkimer Jr./Sr. High School Art Teacher, March celebrates Herkimer County Youth Art Month. “The art goes from K-12. There’s a variety of media, drawings, paintings, and even 3D prints and clay pieces.”
“It’s unique to have work from kindergarten all the way up, with kindergarten work right next to high school pieces. It’s pretty interesting and fun to see,” she said.
BreAnne Dye, a 5th grader from R.S.C.S., talked about her piece and said, “I really worked hard on it. It took six art classes to finish it. It took a lot of sticky fingers and glue.”
Her piece is the colored sun mosaic below, which she is standing in front of.
The exhibit is free and open to the public. Students and teachers from Little Falls, Herkimer, Central Valley, Frankfort-Schuyler, Richfield Springs, Dolgeville, and Mount Markham school districts all participated in the show.
MVCA would like to thank long-time supporters Alan and Linda Vincent for underwriting the exhibit again this year.
