LITTLE FALLS, NY – The Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs’ pitching staff pitched a stellar game on Friday night, combining for a two-hitter in a 4-2 win over the Boonville Lumberjacks.

Justin Hurd (SUNY Albany) drove in the first run of the game in the second, sending a looping fly ball to left field. That RBI single scored JP Kuczik (Fairfield) from second base.

The lead doubled in the third when Joey Calabretti (Seton Hall) cracked a solo home run over the left field fence. That was the first home run for the Diamond Dawgs this season.

The Lumberjacks (3-3) got their first run and their first hit in the top of the seventh on a looping ball to right field by Sebastian Burgos (Fort Hays State).

A JP Kuczik (Fairfield) double brought home two Mohawk Valley runs in the seventh and extended the lead to three. That would be all the Diamond Dawgs pitching staff would allow, only allowing one hit the rest of the way to put away the victory.

Brandon Rusnack (Herkimer) did not allow a hit in five innings of work for the win. Brandon Miller (Fairfield) got the save for Mohawk Valley (5-4).

The Diamond Dawgs will have an exhibition against the Albany Twilight League’s Albany Athletics on Saturday before traveling to Glens Falls on Sunday to take on the Dragons.
