FRANKFORT, N.Y. — The Frankfort-Schuyler Maroon Knights and Dolgeville Blue Devils met in Frankfort on Saturday morning with undefeated records and a share of first place in the Class C CSC Division I on the line. When it was all over, it was the Maroon Knights moving to 7-0 overall with a 3-0 win over the Blue Devils.

“It was a good league win,” Frankfort-Schuyler Head Coach Robert Harrod said. “We came in knowing it’s two undefeated teams, and we knew Dolgeville was going to be a really tough opponent. I think just towards the end, we ended up tiring them a little bit, and we ended up with a win. I’m really proud of these girls”.

After some early back-and-forth play, the Maroon Knights would get on the scoreboard first at just over nine and a half minutes into the first half. Sophomore Kyleigh Sears found herself with an opportunity in front of the Dolgeville net and fired a shot into the top left corner of the net for her third goal of the season.

Frankfort-Schuyler continued to pressure the Blue Devils after the Sears goal. They controlled possession for much of the half, but Dolgeville goalkeeper Mallory Smith held the home team at bay. On the opposite end of the pitch, Frankfort-Schuyler goalkeeper Ella Kaleta stopped everything that came her way, and the score remained 1-0 as the halftime buzzer sounded.

Smith would continue to get tested as the second half started. At 3:40 in, she made a huge save (one of 18 for the game) on Leigh Ferguson, and a minute later, she came way out of her net to aggressively break up what would have been a grade A scoring chance for the Maroon Knights.

Despite Smith’s strong efforts, Frankfort-Schuyler got on the scoreboard once again with 33:50 left. Madelyne Reid created a turnover near midfield and led Sanita Selimovic with a pass into a scoring opportunity in front of the Dolgeville net. Selimovic took care of the rest, firing a shot past Smith into the lower left corner of the net to make it 2-0 with her team leading sixth goal of the season.

The Blue Devils nearly cut the lead in half less than a minute later, but Kaleta made a diving save at the goal line to keep the shutout intact to that point. Kaleta would make five saves on the day.

With 16:10 remaining, the Maroon Knights put the game out of reach when Reid picked up her second assist of the game by setting up Giana McLean for her second goal of the season with a boot into the right side of the net. The McLean goal concluded the scoring in the game.

Despite suffering their first loss of the season, Dolgeville Head Coach Michelle Comstock was pleased with how her team played.

“I thought we played well, we played with them,” Comstock said. “We just didn’t create as many scoring opportunities as I had hoped.”

The 5-1 Blue Devils will return home on Tuesday to face the Canastota Raiders.

As for Frankfort-Schuyler, Coach Harrod noted his team’s success this season has been a full team effort.

“I think just our chemistry as of late has come together, and it helps us trust each other, play the ball to space, and we know where we’re gonna be. Just trusting each other, both defensively and offensively – I think that’s kind of our key”.

Up next for the Maroon Knights, they will remain at home when they host the Utica Academy of Science Atoms on Tuesday.
