Dear Editor,

I attended Opening Day for the Diamond Dawgs last night, and I’m happy to report my love of baseball was rekindled all over again. Did we win? No, but we came darn close (10-11). More importantly, I witnessed the kind of baseball that reminds you why you fell in love with the game in the first place.

It all started with a solid pitcher from the opposing team, and it got me thinking… these moments usually go one of two ways. Sometimes, a team facing a strong pitcher gets deflated, leaving the audience to wince its way through nine long innings. But not this time. What I saw instead was a team rising to the challenge, showing just how strategic they can be when the pressure’s on.

They tightened up the infield, stole bases with confidence, and stayed focused on the fundamentals. They countered bunts, mirrored tactics, and worked hard to stay one step ahead, playing with all heart. There was even a pickle! It was baseball at its finest; scrappy, smart, and full of spirit.

So while we didn’t win the game, the Diamond Dawgs won me over and reminded me again of why I love baseball so much. Thank you, team, for a night of truly exceptional baseball.

Kind regards,
