Little Falls, NY – On Monday, July 14, 2025, Preserve Our Past (POP) honored two historic properties in Little Falls with its prestigious “Pride of Place” awards, recognizing their exceptional care and contribution to the community’s heritage.
The first recipient, the home of Mary (Mollie) Pulver at 91 Church Street, was celebrated for its meticulous maintenance and historical significance. Dating back to the late 1800s, the house features a prominent mansard-style roof, a fashionable architectural element of its era. POP praised the property as a valuable asset to the neighborhood, highlighting its well-preserved condition and historical charm.
The second award went to Roger and Sharon Staring, owners of the property at 436 West Main Street.
Purchased by the family in 1966, this home, believed to have been completed in the 1860s, boasts a vibrant yellow exterior that enhances its cohesive charm.
The property’s historical significance is tied to Carl Haug, a Little Falls architect who lived there and served as the supervising architect under William Nell Smith, a renowned New York City professional known for designing Little Falls’ City Hall, the Burrell Building, and the Masonic Temple.
The house was initially built as the Haug family home, and its architectural style, along with a date of 1876 inscribed in the original garage’s plaster, supports this timeline.
The Starings also discovered Haug’s rejected plans for the city’s proposed City Hall in the attic, which they donated to the Little Falls Historical Society.
POP commended the Starings for their meticulous standards of care, making their home a worthy recipient of the Fall 2025 award.
Both ceremonies, held on July 14, underscored POP’s commitment to preserving Little Falls’ architectural heritage. The awards highlight the dedication of homeowners who maintain these historic properties, ensuring they remain cherished landmarks for future generations.
