Our 1.2 million – member organization started with the vision of one man – Paul Harris. The Chicago attorney formed a social club on February 23, 1905. Harris envisioned a professional club that brought together local men from a variety of vocations. They named their new club Rotary to describe the practice of meeting in rotation at the members place of business. The club soon evolved and good citizenship and service to the community became the standards for the organization.
You may have seen members of the Rotary Club of Little Falls out and about in the community fulfilling Rotary’s mission. Whether it be cleaning up the roadside trash, sweeping sidewalks and washing windows on our Main Street, cleaning and painting the tunnel to Canal Place, volunteering for the Garlic, Cheese, Canal and Christmas festivals, or watering the flowers on Main Street, Rotary members are indeed people of action as Paul Harris envisioned.
Rotary can also be seen fundraising for needed community projects such as the renovation of the old waterfront canal building and grounds in what would become Rotary Park. Other projects include providing imaging equipment for the local Bassett Hospital, providing scholarships for the local high school, backpack program for the local school, supporting a Rotary Exchange program, and a Rotary Youth Leadership program, among many others. So if you see a Rotary fundraising event such as the Canal Celebration Duck Dash, the Tony Piana Golf Tournament, the Polio fundraiser event, or the Monday night football booklet, please support the Rotary Club of Little Falls.
The members of the Rotary Club of Little Falls manage to do it all with a smile. We’re a family of do-gooders and have fun doing it! From fireside parties at Moreland Park to 4th of July concerts, to Diamond Dawg games, Christmas concerts, St. Patrick’s Day events, Thanksgiving gatherings, to a memorable meeting in the lobby of the Stanley Theatre, we have fun!
