Herkimer County Hunger Coalition Chairperson Kelly “Dawg” Brown announced recently that the 100th military banner had been purchased for the village of Herkimer.

The project, which also includes East Herkimer, was mentored by Julie Ermo from St. Johnsville. It was the initiative of a committee consisting of Brown, Coalition members Devin McDonald and Kay Lenarcic, Mayor Dana Sherry, BPW foreman Justin Cristman, former Police Chief Mike Jory, Herkimer High teacher Laura Scalise, Elks Exalted Ruler Mary Burdick, and E. Herkimer’s Vito Carbone.

Anyone interested in purchasing a banner can contact Brown at 315-867-3375. Brown added, “Smaller replicas of the banners are available for $50. They’d make a great Christmas present for a loved one or family.”

The Coalition’s highly successful Gram Lorraine Children’s Christmas Program is underway. Annually, c.700 (since inception, c.15,000) children attending 6 area schools benefit from the kindness of over 200 sponsors.
