The second annual Team Alpine’s Relay for Life Tournament for 2021 teed off on Friday morning, hoping to raise more money this year than they did in their first. The tournament was held at the MV Golf & Event Center in Little Falls, which was formerly the Mohawk Valley Country Club.
Organizer Casey Bayes stated, “The tournament went very well. We actually had fewer players than last year, but we raised more money. Last year we raised $2,400 and this year it was at least $3,100, but we don’t have a final total yet.”
Bayes said, “We did have a hole in one at hole nine and it was my stepmother, Pam Bayes.” The prize for that was a $1,000 American Express card.
She said “Steet Ponte Chevrolet was our title sponsor, and we were happy to have them play in the tournament as well.”
Frank Green’s team won first prize and the losing team, which got a trophy as well, was a team from Alpine headed by Donna Demars. “She had two other girls on the team, and the Vice President of the Health Information Exchange of New York (HIXNY), which was also a main sponsor of the event.”
Other sponsors were Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremations and the Little Falls Veterinary clinic, as well as Humphries Memorials.
She said that this tournament had been combined with one from Rotary, and a golden putter was won by Donna Demars in honor of Roger Skinner. “He used to carry around a golden putter with a sign that had been well-worn out, trying to raise money and give away golden putters. It was a thing close to Rotary’s heart.”
Bays said, “We’re hoping to have more golfers next year and we’re hoping sponsors from this year will continue to support us in 2022. We’re really proud to have raised all of this money for Relay for Life.”
