A 54-year-old male was injured tonight as a result of an assault
Incident:
At approximately 4:19 pm this afternoon, the Little Falls Police Department was dispatched to the corner of East Gansevoort Street and Jackson Street, for a male victim, who claimed he had been shot, and was bleeding. This was reported by a passing motorist. A second call from a pedestrian indicated the victim told that caller he was walking to his residence and was covered in blood.
Officers subsequently located the victim, a 54-year-old male, known to the police, at his residence on North Mary Street. Officers observing an injury requested EMS to the scene. Little Falls Fire Department Ambulance arrived on scene and began treating the victim for an open chest wound.
The victim told officers that he was assaulted by a person, who is known to both the victim and the police, that there was no firearm used in the assault. Paramedics transported the victim to Wynn Hospital by ambulance.
The police have begun interviews in the area and are pursing leads.
At this time, there is a person of interest the police are trying to locate and interview. It is believed that the victim and suspect were engaged in an argument regarding the theft of a bike. This culminated in the victim being struck by the suspect with an object described as a board with a protruding sharp edge.
There is no reason to believe that there is danger to the public and no firearm is suspected, as officers interviewed the original caller and misinformation was assumed. The victim is currently being treated at Wynn Hospital and is listed as in stable condition. As more information develops, press releases will be disseminated that do not hamper the investigation.
