Hello My Little Falls readers!! I want to congratulate Miss Emma Canastar on her cartoon, “Catch the Fog”. We should never underestimate the value nor power of cartoons. My undergrad classmate, Mr. Artie Spiegelman, who started out in high school drawing cartoons for Topps Bubble gum, later went on to win a Pulitzer Prize for his book (done in cartoon format) “Mauz”. Though I never knew it at the time, Artie’s father was a Holocaust survivor since Artie never talked about it. On a more humorous note, Artie (he goes by “Art” not “Artie” any longer) after a holiday break, brought back a dozen or more “siren rings” that Topps was giving out with their bubble gum. These were little silver colored finger rings that when blown into them would produce this ear-deafening siren sound. Well, in predictable fashion, those that were given these rings, drove the rest of our classmates a little crazy when the bunch of us made those siren noises all day long. Coming back to 2025, I can only wish Miss Canastar the best of luck and encourage her to pursue her artistic ability in any shape or form that it may take since one never knows where it may lead.
