The 10th Annual Little Falls Youth and Family Center (formerly YMCA) & Doc Wind Memorial Scholarship Tournament is back this year after not being played in 2020 because of COVID. It will be held on Saturday, June 19th, 2021 at the Henry Pelzer Municipal Golf Course of Little Falls.
According to organizer Katie Drake, “We are excited to be back this year. The tournament befits both of these charities, so it’s double the impact.”
The Doc Wind Memorial Scholarship fund gives away scholarships to local students each year from the proceeds. “The Youth and Family Center does so much for our community as well, and it’s a great way to raise money for both of them,” she stated.
Drake said that Doc Wind was not only a friend but an amazing person. “He was really just a great guy. He had an infectious way about him that was kind, gentle, and fun. There are some really good stories about him out there, so this tournament is suitably named in his honor.”
“It’s just a day for us all to come together and raise money for a good cause, have a fun time, and remember Doc,” stated Drake.
She said that things are a little bit different this year with a four-man scramble (with handicap) across the board with two divisions or the womens/mixed division with no handicap. “Anything goes with lots of room for people and a really fun day.”
DikinDurt Distillery’s Moonshine will be on hand for tasting, with a Tiki Bar, and a lot of prizes. “It’s just going to be a great day. There might even be free beer if you’re in the tournament. It’s just really cool.”
Nick Regan is going to be cooking up a storm. “We do a nice lunch and a nice dinner, with snacks in the morning. You won’t go hungry and you won’t leave thirsty,” stated Drake.
There are still openings if you want to sign up and play in the tournament.
Tournament proceeds support two wonderful charities. The Youth and Family Center’s youth programs which include recreation, social, and family curricula to Little Falls and our surrounding communities. And, the Theodore D. Wind Scholarship Fund, which selects a local Little Falls senior every year to support with a scholarship.
