LITTLE FALLS, NY – They only needed six hits on Sunday night, but it was enough for the Glens Falls Dragons to pick up their second win of the season, 7-3 over the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs.
Cameron Biller (Mount St. Mary) got the scoring started on a slowly bouncing ball in the second. Biller got out on the play, but did manage to score Joe Karpierz (Xavier) on the play. Michael Sweeney (Hofstra) extended the lead to two just two batters later on a sharply hit ball to left field, scoring Enrique Diaz (Dyersburg State). Just one batter after Sweeney, Aidan Gallagher (Hofstra) came home on a bases-loaded walk.
Much like Biller in the top of the inning, Matt Mayer (SUNY Brockport) scored a run on a ground-out to break the shutout in the bottom of the inning, scoring Ian Oehlschlaeger (RPI). Brandon Hauk (St. Thomas Aquinas) would come home a couple of batters later on a sharply hit ball into center field by Kaden Hart (Virginia Tech).
Tyler Figueroa (Appalacian State) came home on a wild pitch in the sixth to extend the Glens Falls (2-4) lead to two.
The lead extended to three in the seventh on an RBI double from Joe Haines (Catholic).
A sacrifice fly by Hauk in the eighth scored Edwin Sanchez (Siena) and cut the Glens Falls lead to two.
The Dragons would put two more runs up on the board before Christian Mello (SUNY Albany) shut down Mohawk Valley in the bottom of the ninth.
Jack Chavez picked up the loss for the Diamond Dawgs (3-4).
The Diamond Dawgs are back in action on Monday night, when they take a trip to Boonville to take on the Lumberjacks.
