The Walk for Wanda fundraiser raises awareness and prevention of Type 2 Diabetes. The event was created with the help of supporters from the Little Falls City School District and their family and friends after the death of district employee Althea Noyes’ mother in February of 2014.
During normal times, the walk would have happened in Eastern Park with DJs, refreshments, event t-shirts, basket raffles, door prizes, and activities for children such as face painting. However, COVID put a lid on those things, so organizers had to adjust.
Noyes stated, “All proceeds from the walk are donated to Herkimer County HealthNet programs on diabetes awareness, prevention, and self-management for residents of Herkimer County.”
Monica Tooley, the high school physical education teacher said, “We just did a virtual walk during phys ed classes every week in place of something Althea has organized for years.”
