Southsiders held their reunion on Saturday at Rotary Park. According to Dave Talaba, this was the fourth one that has been done. “It started about 10-12 years ago,” he said.
One year a crowd of between 300-330 people went through the harbor for food, conversation, and the telling of old stories. “We had a display up of southside Veterans and that was the big draw that year.
This year, 90-year-old Father Lanza was the center of attention for many of the visitors. “Some people haven’t seen each other in twenty, thirty, or even forty years,” he said.
Hard cider that had been fermented twice was a hit at the picnic as well. “It’s pretty heavy-duty and it’s made from the apple trees right on this street, and it’s called SouthCider,” stated Talaba.
