LITTLE FALLS, NY – The Utica Blue Sox got back to .500 in the most dramatic way possible, scoring four runs in the eighth to turn a three-run deficit into a 7-5 win.

The Blue Sox got on the board first, after an accidental hit by Damian Witty (Charleston) scored Wyatt Hunt (Monmouth) just four batters in. They would score another on an error by the Mohawk Valley shortstop, bringing Benny Partridge (Limestone) home.

Diego Tavarez (Wagner) got the Diamond Dawgs on the board with an RBI single to left field off the bat of Ethan Pues (Hudson Valley CC). However, Cristino Tufano (George Washington) would one-up his teammate with a 2-RBI triple to right field, scoring Pues and Levi McAllister (SUNY Albany).

Pues got anoher two RBIs in the fifth with one swing of the bat that the Utica left fielder lost in the sun. When Mike Benedetto (College of Saint Rose) figured out where it was, Tavarez and Jason Campo (Stony Brook) had already scored to bring the lead to three.

Utica cut the lead to two in the eighth on a bloop single by Kevin Denty (Valparaiso), then broke it open in the eighth on hits by Partridge.

Matthew Williams got the win for Utica. Dylan Bedder got the loss for Mohawk Valley (10-8).

The Diamond Dawgs are back in action on Friday when they travel to Utica for the back half of their home-and-home series with the Blue Sox. They will come back to Veteran’s Memorial Park on Saturday when they take on the Boonville Lumberjacks.
