Herkimer College Track and Field athletes Amelia Bowman-McCoy and Alexis Heath competed in the NJCAA Division Track & Field National Championships breaking records and bringing home a championship.

Amelia Bowman-McCoy, a sophomore from Oneida, NY, set a personal best of 12:37.56 in the 3,000M Steeplechase at the NJCAA Division III Track & Field National Championships to claim her first-ever National Championship.

Bowman-McCoy paced herself from the start, steadying behind two other runners for the first 1000 meters of the race. In the next 1000 meters Bowman-McCoy, found herself in second place, with the final one-third of the race remaining.

Bowman-McCoy recorded her second-fastest 400-meter split in the race’s final stretch to clinch her first National Championship victory.

Freshman Alexis Heath ended her first season running track & field with a place in the Herkimer record books. Heath, a second-year student and first-year runner from Inlet, NY, set a remarkable time of 5:02.26, finishing in second place in the 1500M race at the NJCAA Division III Track & Field National Championships.

Heath’s efforts proved historic as she etched her name into the Herkimer Track & Field record books with the fastest 1500M time in the program’s last 15 years. This was Heath’s career-best finish, surpassing her record-breaking time at the Cortland Classic earlier last month.
